The numbers on the faces of Tarot cards reflects stages of development and evolution. When  interpreting the numbers on Minor Arcana cards, you also need to consider the suit of the card/s as the suit will tell you which area of life is affected or involved.   The numbers are closely aligned to numerology. The following is a summary and should be considered a general guideline.

Cards in the Pentacles suit usually depict discs of gold often with a pentagram or pentagon (5-sided symbol) inscribed on the disc. The symbolism associated with the pentacle is interesting as it suggests that, just as the design is used in Magick for protection, money or material resources can be used for protection. Pentacles are also depicted as shells, bread, wheels, clocks, crystals, rings or even shields. The characters in this suit are often shown in scenes of work or play.

The suit of Pentacles represents the economy and those who work within the industry including people in the banking, legal and broking professions. Pentacles can also symbolise people who wish to better their financial or material standing, those that understand how money works and those that respect the power that money brings. This implies being grounded in the material and physical world. Pentacles can sometimes describe other types of material resources such as physical capabilities and health conditions. In many decks, Cups are pictured as ornate chalices that often appear double-ended as though they can be filled from both sides. Any type of vessel can depict the feminine energy of the suit � cauldrons, vases, baskets, bottles, etc. Images on the cards illustrate comfort, security, happiness or contentment.

Cups describe emotions, love, romance, relationships with others (friends, colleagues etc), culture, intuition and the unconscious in addition to referring to good-natured, friendly situations. Read the rest of this entry »

Cards in the Wands suit are generally brightly coloured illustrating the optimism and action contained within the cards; yellow for optimism and red for action. The card designs are usually cheerful. The people on the suit are often shown as warriors, leaders or magicians � bold and creative people who charge forth in life with confidence and energy.

The Wands themselves are sometimes shown as branches sprouting leaves or flowers, as wooden staffs, poles, clubs or sometimes flaming torches. Read the rest of this entry »

Swords are often illustrated as unsheathed double-bladed sabres, daggers or the magician�s tool known as the anthame. Although usually shown as battle swords, Swords in a reading suggest power and authority used for a purpose other than physical fighting.

Swords symbolise events, situations or attitudes that may be difficult or challenging. For this reason, swords also represent the growth and development of the conscious mind. The appearance of Swords in a reading usually indicates some sort of stress that makes you think about problems or difficult situations, in other words, �applying an intellectual solution to a problem. I have been wanting to sit down for some time and blog about “Readings”. I often get involved in discussions about whether “this stuff is real and whether it’s about just telling clients what they want to hear”.

There are good readings, bad readings and like shades of grey, a variety inbetween. Just as some clients may find a particular reader bad, sometimes a reader gets a “bad” client. That dosen’t mean the client is bad, it means that sometimes the reasons and motivations for a reading are not clear or that there is mistrust. As a psychic, I’m conscious of being a representative of this discipline as a service profession. Like with any service profession, there are a lot of people out there that aren’t as true as they can and should be. I mean readers who would rather go along with what the client wants or wants to hear.

Sometimes a client will book a tarot reading and when they walk through the door, I am guided to do something else. I discuss this with a client and will offer the alternative. Some may say that is like walking in to a restaurant and ordering the Duck but getting the Chicken. Maybe so, but it’s all about VIBES. However, if you don’t feel comfortable with a reader or a reader doesn’t feel comfortable with a client then one of you should call an end, even if it means cancelling the reading once it’s begun.

I hope to expand on this topic over the next few weeks, so let me have your comments and feedback. I’m interested in hearing what people think.

I have been asked by a few clients recently whether I would consider running a “Teach yourself  Tarot” course. I run various other workshops, but have just been going through all my notes on Tarot and it would seem that I have more than enough material to develop course notes. So, I have just updated an earlier blog – Basic Tarot notes and called it Tarot Interpreted which seems as good a name as any to call a Tarot course. I’ll start working on putting the notes together.

There are 22 Major Arcana (Trumps) cards that cover fundamental concepts, principles, life experiences, beliefs, underlying influences, spiritual development, relationship of the individual to the world.

There are 56 Minor Arcana (Pip) cards which consists of 4 suits of 10 ‘pip’ cards plus 4 Court cards which represents specific events, experiences, attitudes and people. Read the rest of this entry »
