Meditation
If you have been browsing any of my other blogs, you will by now know that I am a firm believer in meditation. My clients know that I am a practical person (I have a few 4’s and 8’s in my numerogical chart). I believe that everything should be as simple as posible and that life should be lived gracefully. This goes for meditation as well. Most people initially shrink away from the idea of meditation as the word sometimes conjures up mental images of long flowing orange robes and chanting “ahm” and “ohm” for an unbearably long time. Not so.
We all need down time, time to relax. We all need to rest our mind from daily overload input. We all need to fill our spirit with renewed energy. We all need a little help in our daily lives.
Just as the physical body needs food and sleep to function at a basic level, our Higher selves needs sustenance. As childen we were taught “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away”. I believe that 10 to 15 minutes of meditation a day also keeps the doctor away.
The word meditation comes from the Latin meditatio, which originally indicated every type of physical or intellectual exercise, then later evolved into the more specific meaning forms of “contemplation”. The Greeks and Romans understood that for a balanced daily life, one needed to take time out and give focus to specific areas of their daily lives.
Most religions, Eastern and Western recommend and include some form of meditation.
I believe that to attract what you want, you need to spend some time every day in quite contemplation, either:
- Fill me up daily meditation (Best done before you start your day)
- On the run 1 minute meditation (Used anywhere any time to call for assistance and stuff you need, like a parking spot or to avoid a traffic jam.
There is no perfect time or place to do a “Fill me up meditation”. I like to do my meditation early in the morning around 5.30 as I sit with a cup off coffee watching the day begin. My Husband does his mediation in the evening when he sits in his chair with a cup of tea.
How to do the 15 minute meditation (for beginners):
- Find a place where you can be comfortable and won’t be disturbed.
- Wear loose clothing. Clothing should not be restrictive.
- You can sit on the floor, in a chair or on your bed. Being relaxed is key so don’t force yourself to sit in a way that is uncomfortable if your age or physical abilities restrict you.
- Rest you arms on your thighs.
- Place your palms facing upwards.
- Keep you back straight if you can. This maintains a good posture but don’t become too focused on your posture.
- Breathe normally through your nose – slow, rhythmic breathing, focussing on the air flowing into and out of your body.
- Ground yourself by visualising a long cord extending down from your base chakra deep into Earth.
- Visualise a bright sliver light above your head and see yourself pulling this light down into you.
- Now that you are prepared, don’t foucs specifically on relaxing.
- Let your thoughts float, dont worry about what pops into your mind, just let the thoughts come and go. After a few days practice, you will find that your mind has quietened and you are able to fully relax during meditation.
Enjoy!
