Types of Detox

Author: Naturopaths use various types of detox to restore balance to the body. The table below summarises the most common detox’s:
| Detox Type | Description |
| Water fasting | A detox where only water is consumed (no food). It can be used to treat certain health conditions and also for weight loss. However, after 24 hours your body starts to take its energy not only from stored fat but also from muscle so you need to exercise caution. |
| Juice fasting | During this detox, only freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juice or water is consumed. Fruits and vegetables are rich in micro-nutrients and many actively encourage the elimination of toxins. Taking them in liquid rather than solid form aids digestion. This sort of detox is often recommended for rheumatism or arthritis. The detox can usually be maintained for 1 week. |
| Mono-diets | This entails spending a day or more eating just one type of raw fruit or vegetable (as advised by an expert relative to the health problem). You eat the whole fruit or vegetable and drink its juice – consuming as much as you like. This is also used for weight loss. |
| Exclusion diets | Usually designed to pinpoint any food intolerances, this detox follows a highly restricted diet (under expert guidance) for a few weeks then systematically re-introduces other foods while recording the effect the re-introduced foods have on your system. |
